So called (like many other similarly patterned species) because of its black spots on a light background, the Clown Catfish has been known since 1822 – although it did not begin to appear with much frequency until the 1990s. An albino form is occasionally available.

Behavior
- Generally peaceful, active shoaler. Diet: Livefoods preferred, but other foods also accepted.
Aquarium
- Plants not vital, but well-lit, well-planted aquarium with gravelly bottom and some flat or smoothly rounded resting places recommended. Provide a water current (as produced by power filter or powerhead outlet). Hard alkaline water preferred. Temperature range: 64-72 F (18-22 C).
